Liedon Vanhalinna and the University of Turku are not only historically
connected to each other. Still and according to the deed of gift
from 1956 Vanhalinna fosters and maintains the traditional national
culture and supports the work and research of the University of
Turku.
Ester and Mauno Wanhalinna who wanted to serve this by donating
the estate to the University of Turku were themselves eager and
interested collectors of cultural-historical objects. Their collections
can still be seen in Vanhalinna's museum of local history.
Moreover in the main building the estate houses an archaeological
exhibition with artefacts from the prehistoric hill of Vanhalinna
as well as from Southwest Finland in general.
In the former warehouse of the manor the visitor can have a look
at the ethnological exhibition "Land of East and West"
(Idän ja lännen maa) and the "Thread of Life"
exhibition (elämänlanka) which is displayed in the former
cowshed.
Furthermore Vanhalinna presents changing exhibitions and cultural
events for all agegroups all over the year. Please don't hesitate
to ask for our actual programme!
In addition Vanhalinna co-operates with schools and other educational
institutions of the region. Teaching aids are prepared together,
and those illuminate the history of Vanhalinna making it possible
to consider one's own cultural identity as well as to understand
different cultures more easily. Guided tours and other museum
pedagogical projects are developed and offered concerning the
target groups, interests and arrangements.
Welcome to Vanhalinna and to our local history!
